What is Missional?

This is an interesting question because almost everyone is getting on the missional bandwagon these days. Alan Roxburgh has noted that in a few short years the term missional has gone from obscure to banal. I read an article published by a major denomination in which they thought that marketing themselves with a more missional-sounding name might help them focus on the missional side of what they are doing.
